July 31, 2009Fashionista: Houndstooth loveReligiously following runway trends are for the clueless and unfashionable.
Houndstooth print has been an obsession of mine for forever. It is such a classy textile print in which many designers mix into their looks. I don't think it will ever get old! Here's some interesting information for you: Houndstooth is a duotone textile pattern, characterized by broken checks or abstract four-pointed shapes. This pattern was popularized by Edward VIII when he was the Prince of Wales. It has made a frequent appearance on fabrics designed in the 1930s through the 1970s.
Houndstooth is very versatile and can be mixed and matched with almost anything (except polka dots--please don't do that) and thats why I love it. My outfit pick for this week would make even the Prince of Wales proud =]
Outfit of the week:
PAIR WITH... a giant black bow!
clash & city co available @ myspace.com/clashcityjewelry
PAIR WITH... shoes that tie at the ankle or have an ankle cuff are super cute. the ones below are my favorite; definitley on my list of hot fall items=]
A bold print houndstooth dress like the one above is so loud in itself that its nearly efortless. All you need to do is pair a hot shoe with it, throw on some accessories, and you're done! Simple, easy, chic.
Accessory of the week: Flower power? I have two rose embelished clutches and I think they're the cutest things ever!
Satin rose clutch $35 @ accessorybug.com
Random item of the week: I know these lickable glitter powders are old news but I have been a fan for the past five years when I first discovered them at Sephora. A little body shimmer is always the best compliment to an everyday look!
Urban Decay honey powder $26 @ sephora.com
Voila. Enjoy! Thoughts? Comment!
PS- Houndstooth rules and I hope you think so too! Just don't overdo it like I did...
PPS- vintage houndstooth > new houndstooth so hit up your local thrift store for some great finds!

July 25, 2009you won't be seeing UNDER THE SEA...because halfway into the collection, I decided I hated it and will not be finishing or releasing it.
I realize how far behind schedule this puts me, and even if that means releasing my spring/summer 2010 collection later than expected, I would rather put something out there that I am proud of than something mediocre. To me, every collection needs to top the previous one in one way or another. With the underwater theme that I picked, I could not do that. I had a gut feeling that this was not something I loved as I was sketching the first outfits out, and it took me about a month into production to realize how much I really hated the designs I was creating. I didn't have a clear vision in my mind of the clothing as I settled on the theme and that should have been my first sign. I thought I could turn it into something more but I was wrong. It wasn't alternative. It wasn't edgy. It wasn't eye-popping. It wasn't MARIALIA. How could I top the CANDYLAND collection with something so...lame? It was boring and although I wasted a lot of time and work, I am making the right decision. I'm very frustrated by this but also excited at the same time because I randomly came up with an entirely new theme yesterday thats making me burst with ideas and I cannot wait to get started on it first thing Monday morning! I really think you are all going to love it- its going to be very bold, shiny, and luxurious ;)
I still plan on doing my WONDERLAND mini couture collection for holiday though, so stay tuned to that, as well as this *newer* new collection by MARIALIA for SS2010.
PS thank you for all the amazing support ♥ i know this is going to knock your socks off =]

July 24, 2009Fashionista: F2009 Runway Picks!A few days ago at work, I watched the BCBG Max Azria product knowledge for fall of 2009, and I was floored. I love so many pieces of their fall collection! It inspired me to base this week's fashionista picks on some of my favorite fall 2009 looks from some of my utmost favorite fellow designers straight from the runway. Summer is more than halfway over and for many of you that means back to school! In the fashion world, fall is probably the best, if not most important season for incredible designs and new fashions. So, if you're not much of a school person (like me) here is something else to look forward to this fall... ;) Betsey Johnson F2009 RTW:
It's no secret that Miss Betsey Johnson is one of my favorite designers ever. These obnoxious rose prints seem to be making a big splash already, and I'm liking it! So bold and subtle at the same time; it will definitley be making an appearance in my closet soon.
BCBG MaxAzria F2009 RTW:
Good job, Max! Loving the metallic nylons and I cannot wait until these come in and we can mix them into outfits. The whole collection is gorgeous and mostly focuses on metallic accents such as gold and gunmetal silver.
Alexander McQueen F2009 RTW:
I'm a big fan of houndstooth! As you can probably tell by some of my outfits so his ready to wear collection for this fall totally won my heart! It's designers like Alexander McQueen that are true artists in the fashion world, and that has a lot to do with my own drive to create things that are different and borderline ridiculous. He brings originality, creativity, and a breath of fresh air to emerging alternative designers (such as myself) that there is room for minds like ours on that long runway =]
Christian Siriano F2009 RTW:
I got very emotional and really cried during his season of project runway because when it was announced that he had won, it hit close to my heart and I could imagine him feeling at the top of the world at that moment; that all his hard work had finally paid off and this was his time. Christian Siriano is one of my favorite designers ever =] This mini dress with the signature ruffle detail is incredible (and see, I told you that golds and metallics were a big deal!), and some exciting news in case you didn't already know... all those fierce shoes that you see, there's about 6 different styles, are all christian siriano for PAYLESS and will be available this fall for under $50. I promise you I am going to buy every single pair. Richie Rich F2009 RTW:
Polka dots? Yes please. I wanted to end this journal with the "best for last" but then I soon rememebered that my ultimate favorite of all favorites brand HEATHERETTE is no longer =[ However, former Heatherette designer Richie Rich did a pretty good job that if the name on the back board said "Heatherette", I would have not known a difference. Giant clown inspired colorful polka dots on white are really really cute and I think this dress is fantastic! Definitley my favorite piece from him.
It seems the fashion world is always full of the same old boring things. I commend designers like those above that bring something new to the table, and I was surprised that after about an hour of searching for someone "new" or a brand that I wasn't too familiar with, I could not find anything that really stood out to me. That goes to show how minimal these type of designers are and I think it its so important to appreciate their creativity, as i hope many people do mine through our clothing. Let me know by commenting below which look is your absolute favorite! I know its difficult but if I had to pick one, i'd go with Alexander McQueen =]
AND P.S. Stay tuned to my page and buzznet itself this upcoming week to learn how you can WIN A FREE custom design by me made specially for you in honor of the "back to school" and fall spirit!!!

July 16, 2009Fashionista: Your style icons! What a strange power there is in clothing. Fashion is empowering.
We all have things or people that inspire our everyday style and tastes in fashion. What it takes to become a style icon is chic originality and eclectic style for your time. Dress the way that you feel most comfortable- whether that means jeans and tshirt or metallic leggings, tutus, and giant bows. Everyone's style is a reflection of the type of person they are, what they like, and how they feel- but don't hold back from wearing something wild because you're too scared! These style icons below all have a signature look that still carries on in the fashion world to this day. Here are some of my picks on how to get their look =]
Twiggy's Look:

alternative fashion vs. standard fashionwhich do you prefer? one takes more creativity and risks than the other, but the other doesn't believe that the alternative industry is "real". breaking industry standards? i thought fashion was an art, and art has no limits.
im sure you all know which one I choose.

July 9, 2009Fashionista: Raid Your Boyfriend's Closet!Fashion is something barbarous, for it produces innovation without reason and imitation without benefit.
I have been a big fan of men's clothing lately. Nothing is as simple (and cute!) as belting an oversized t-shirt with leggings and heels, or throwing on an oversized plaid button up over mini skirts. And the best part is, if they have good style, you can just "borrow" these items from your boyfriend, brother, dad, etc. I also have been into re-vamping dudes' old band tees and turning them into something new because lets face it, not everything cool can be bought at a store. So creative, so cheap, and so chic!
Outfit of the week: I have an obsession with rompers/jumpsuits lately, and I am a big fan of anything tiered or rouched. This rouched one from twelve by twelve is perfect!
Ruched knit romper $36 @ forever21.com
Pair with... Like I said earlier, plaid and checker print button ups are really cute. But why buy one when you can just grab one from the closet next door? Here is one from UO as an example. Although cuts in clothing for men are very boxy and do not flatter curves, and you will most likely have to get the smallest sizes you can find, I love them because they are typically longer and easily shapeable with a fat waist belt.
Pair with... Any thick belt worn at the high waist will do the trick, but this ruffle one below is so cute! Just might have to get it myself.
Wcm grosgrain ruffle stretch belt $58 @ nordstroms.com
Pair with... A black chunky heel with a lot going on would look perfect with this crazy outfit.
KILBURY shoe $125 @ aldoshoes.com
Accessory of the week: This may seem boring and standard, but I am going with the simple butterfly clip as my accessory pick of the week =] These can be found anywhere and are really cheap. I have been using these a lot lately to put up my hair in a messy low side bun and its a great style for the hot summer weather. Give it a try! Tease your hair big to give it shape and you can even pin back your bangs in a cute pump; hairspray the hell out of it, and pull back the rest of your hair by twisting it on the low side of your head and securing with a butterfly clip. Looks best when you don't try hard to make it look perfect- messy is sexy!
Colored butterfly clamps $1.99 @ sallybeauty.com
Random item of the week: Take your anger out in a safe way =]
The Ex voodoo knife holder in pink $70 @ perpetualkid.com
Ta-Da! Are you going to experiment with mixing in boy clothing to your outfit? Have you already? What do you think of this week's picks? Comment and let me know!
xoxo, marialia

July 4, 2009for your entertainment...haters never die!I just wanted to post these recent comments somebody left for me and even went out of their way to make a buzznet account hating on me. I just think its so pathetic, but yet funny at the same time. I have the thickest skin in the world; I have heard everything a million times before and even commenting about my personal life and my family does not affect me. I think its important for everyone to look at matters like these in the way that I do. I have enough self confidence and passion in myself and in what I do that these things are nothing more than entertainment for me. I wont retaliate and talk shit back because thats just not who I am. I know who is responsible, or atleast somewhat responsible for stupid things like this and I honestly feel so sorry for them. Bullying is a serious problem these days and even more so: bullying on the internet. Its so easy to hide behind a computer screen, or find the courage in a few drinks to say shit like this in person...and its not okay. Its hilarious that the only things I ever hear about are my clothing and people calling me fat...I am taking my time and writing this out in a journal because I know that others deal with it too and its the most important thing in the world to not let it get to you. I am not going to stop designing clothes, being myself, and opening up my life to others on the internet because of people "talking shit". I have way too many good things going for me to give anyone that kind of satisfaction. But please, act like your momma raised you right and realize when you're too old to keep behaving this way...
whothefuck: 07/04/2009 5:10 PM [view in context] clearly your bf doesn't know photoshop very well, I would have made you look a lot skinnier, but I charge $120 per photo.....ummmmmmm maybe 200 for you...there is a LOT of work that needs to be done for you
whothefuck: 07/04/2009 5:07 PM [view in context] call it fat with in some fabric!!! I'm a fucking genius B======D~~~~
whothefuck: 07/04/2009 5:06 PM [view in context] where's your boobies?
whothefuck: 07/04/2009 5:05 PM [view in context] that guy looks gay as fuck
whothefuck: 07/04/2009 5:05 PM [view in context] wash the semen out of your hair, I knew I shouldn't have came on your face last night, once it got in your hair you thought it looked soooooo cooooool
whothefuck: 07/04/2009 5:03 PM [view in context] look at those arms!! woohoo!! you look like you're gonna be one of those old ladies playing bingo, waving their arm fat all over the place as they are winning at the old folks home.
whothefuck: 07/04/2009 5:00 PM [view in context] oh god, if I had a dollar for every time some internet slut thought she was being clever and writing something across her chest, I would have 2 ferarri's and a mansion in PV.
whothefuck: 07/04/2009 4:58 PM [view in context] Why do you have a tattoo of italy on your wrist? Natalie told me that you aren't even italian. you were adopted by italians, and your real parents are white trash. has fun being fake!! t(o_0t)
whothefuck: 07/04/2009 4:55 PM [view in context] I saw you at zeppy's a little while ago....I swear you looked a lot fatter.....weird what photoshop can do.......
whothefuck: 07/04/2009 4:53 PM [view in context] no, the one making the video is called pathetic! I checked out your "clothing" that you design, you might want to take up being a house wife for 2 reasons....1) you have no talent...2) you are already fat.
whothefuck: 07/04/2009 10:06 PM [view in context]
I may have extensions, fake eyelashes, and sometimes blue contacts, but I am more real and ambitious than you can ever be :)

July 3, 2009Fashionista: Indie DesignersFashion is the science of appearance, and it inspires one with the desire to seem rather than to be. Being a designer is hard. Its really hard, actually. And if you do not teach yourself to have a thick skin and execute everything you do with insane amounts of confidence and passion, you will not last long. With that said, this week I thought I would give some credit and pick my favorite pieces from fellow emerging independent fashion designers and piece them together in a couple different outfits. All these designers are so talented and I admire their take on this glorious art. Be sure to comment below and tell me your favorite!
Outfit #1: Party/event outfit Torture Couture is an accessory line specializing in top hats and headpieces. Cute!
Twilight two for one mini top hat $50 @ torturecouture.com

Dirty Addiciton hologram ruffle skirt $100 @ dirtyaddiciton.com

Chilled Vanilla Cream Hair Bow $11.50 @ pinkantoinette.etsy.com
PAIR WITH...
C.TA Glam Couture is another friend of mines independent clothing company currently focusing on graphic art and tees. They have a mix of adorable to in-your-face tshirt designs that give off plenty of attitude and personality.
Fashion Junkie Tee $24 @ ctaglamcouture.com
PAIR WITH...
Tuck this tshirt in to some high waist shorts such as these ones by San Francisco designer Lily L. She has some amazing classic pieces at a really reasonable price point for handmade clothing.
High Waist Navy shorts $56 @ lilyl.com
Oufit #3: Fun in the Sun
I came accross LA Drama Queen while browsing on Etsy and I think she makes the cutest swimsuits! This one below is vintage barbie inspired and gets an A+ in my book. I am totally over the standard bikini this summer; i think one pieces and swimwear with a creative twist is much cuter!
$110 @ ladramaqueen.etsy.com PAIR WITH...
Cover up with a cute pencil skirt from the SS09 Li Cari collection. This pink one is my favorite, but is also available in a variety of colors. Such classic and chic clothing! Props to the designer.
$158 @ shoplicari.com
PAIR WITH...
Onch makes the cutest jewelry! Its a bit pricey, but totally worth it for great quality handmade items! Add some more cuteness to the outfit above with one of his signature pretzel necklaces...
Let me know which outfit is your favorite by commenting below! Who are your favorite emerging designers? (& I'm included in that list! haha =P) I can't pick, I love all of them! My favorite items however would have to be the hologram ruffle skirt and the barbie inspired swimsuit.
