Fashionista: MTV Movie Awards

Some awesome movies are being nominated for this year's MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, May 31st!

Read on to see my favorite fashion picks from this year's hottest movie nominees, as well as the not-so-favorites.

Kiss of Approval:

Star of TWILIGHT, Kristen Stewart looks FIERCE. Here at the overseas premiere of the movie, whatever she's got on is working for her! Aside from the movie, I just love her style. Its so classy, yet at the same time still a little sexy. And not to mention that she is just plain BEAUTIFUL! Despite the overrated movie, Kristen Stewart gets a million kisses of approvals for her awesome taste in style.

THE DARK KNIGHT had an incredible costume designer. Here is one of my favorites worn by Heath Ledger (R.I.P.) as the Joker. The mix of the colors and the subtle detail in their prints give it such a great look. And props to those tacky socks, I love them!

Kate Hudson in BRIDE WARS had some pretty amazing outfits. Some might think its tacky, but this one pictured above is my favorite. A metallic skirt and black patent (hopefully not leather) jacket looks great. It can be very dangerous though if worn on the wrong person! Hahaha, so skip the heels and pair this with plain black flat boots. Fun for a night out!

Not so Hot:

FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL was an awesome movie, and it never gets old everytime I watch it. I am a big Mila Kunis fan, but I wish they would have styled her better for the movie. I remember seeing dresses like that at Target in like 2001 when Hawaiian prints were "cool." That color also does nothing for her. Blues, corals, and even yellows would have been a much better choice for this girl. And they should have ditched the tacky flower.

Vanessa Hudgens as a cave woman!

As you all know, fur tops my list of fashion donts for many reasons. Some of them being: immoral, cruel, and just plain cold-hearted. I wish she would have worn something different (anything!) for the premiere of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3. Fur is never a good choice.

HOUSE BUNNY starring Anna Faris was a cute movie; I did enjoy it! But omg @ the wardrobe. I know it was probably intentional but I hated everything that was worn in this movie. Its never cool to dress sleazy; this photo reminds me of something like Jessica Alba and her two best friends would have sported in the movie Never Been Kissed.

Thoughts?!

The one I would pick to wear: The Kristen Stewart dress.

Now tell me which one you would love to rock!

Love always, your fashionista

viva las vegas, goodbye teen years.

we went to vegas for my birthday this past weekend. it was my parents, my sister, my brother in law, the boyfirend, and i. tons of my friends went this weekend too but im always too lost in my world to run into or meet up with anyone lol :) we stayed in a suite at the venetian, drank too much, ate too much, and i had the best damn time doing it. i have some amazing parents that spoil the hell out of me and i feel so blessed & grateful. happy birthday to me! celebrated it alllll week and had about nine candles and cake to blow out...good thing i didnt eat all of them hahaha :)

alot of people laughed at my outfits, especially what i wore on my birthday. im used to it, so it kind of makes my day everytime it happens haha. i didnt even think anything was all that outrageous but i guess some people just couldn't handle it. but if i cared about what anyone thought, i wouldn't dress the way i do. id change my style. but i think its going to stick with me forever :)

fashion doesn't make you, you make fashion. i can't wait until the day i or someone wearing one of my designs ends up on the worst dressed list of a magazine! atleast i made your head turn :)

anyways! hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

heading to santa monica for the night to work on sketches. stay tuned this week for my fashionista blog exclusively about the mtv movie awards!

Fashionista: The best summer outfits

Summer is right around the corner, and most of us are already feeling it now (cough LA cough)...

Since I was little, I would always pay attention to what people around me were wearing. i don't look at their face, just at their clothes and personal style...so a lot of my ideas for outfits, designs, and my own clothing comes from what I observe from others, all mixed together and taken into my own style preference. This first outfit is similar to something that I saw a little girl wearing the other day at the vintage boutique...I thought it was so cute, flirty, and perfect for the warm weather! Enjoy xo

So...Here are my picks for (3) perfect summer outfits....then comment below and tell me your favorite out of the three!!! Which would you rock this summer?

Outfit of the week:

Pick #1...

You can never go wrong with a basic white Vneck from american apparel..its the perfect basic...so comfy and versatile!

Unisex sheer jersey deep v neck in white $51 3pack @ american apparel

Pair with a light and girly mini floral printed skirt...

Floral chiffon skirt $30 @ shoprouche.com

Pick #2...

Bringing PLAID back =]...i dont even know if it ever even really "left" or was "in" to begin with..but I hardly ever see it anymore and I don't know why because its such a fun print! Day dresses are  undoubtedly a summer staple, so pick one up for the season in this pattern. Blue is the safest color to wear plaid and not to mention its quite refreshing, so don't get all tacky with the "black and neon" plaid that was once in!

Shania Plaid sundress by mm couture $84 @ lulus.com

Pick #3...

One piece swimsuits with a pair or high waist shorts is definitley something to try...whether you are going to the beach or just for a day out...the one piecers can serve as bodysuits, which have been really in for the spring season and perfect for the "tucked in" look! This one piece below is sooooo cute...make sure you go for one that doesn't really look like a swimsuit =]

Bondi Bay Swimsuit $200 @ modcloth.com

And throw on some high waist shorts over it...

Dolce Vita high waist short $90 @ urbanoutfitters.com

Accessory of the Week:

Give the oversized bows a break and swap them for flowers...Flower headbands are the perfect touch to any look!

Over sized raw edge flower headband $8.80 @ bleudame.com

Random item of the week:

Straight from my favorite new website full of things that make me smile! Fredflare.com has the most outrageous products ever...I bought myself this very one the other day and can't wait for it to come in the mail! So cute!!

Slice of cake pouch $14 @ fredflare.com

=]

Don't forget to tell me your favorite summer outfit out of my picks! I love them all and can't choose just one look =P

What do you prefer, floral or plaid?

Adam should have won...Conservative America wins once again.

But, I wasn't really surprised when we all saw Kris Allen win because I couldn't really expect anything better from America.

...we all know who miss california voted for....lol

We live in a country where most people still oppose gay marriage, frown on those of us that are different, and still believe that times are the way they used to be. And although it has gotten a lot better these past few years, conservatists still pretty much out number liberalists...

If you really want my opinion, Idol is either fixed to prevent controversy, or Kris won just for being simple. Many of us can't handle a new mindset and we refuse to accept change. Its easy for people in our age group to accept these "new" things, but all of America doesn't consist of 15 to 35 year olds. There are the young girls, who all probably swoon over Kris Allen because he is the definition of STANDARD, and then there are also the older people...which I do not have much to say about. Not to mention Kris Allen probably had the vote of nearly the entire midwest- a region pretty much known and stereotyped for their conservative ways (which is weird in my opinion because since when was it conservative to sleep with and marry your sister?)...whatever. Call this me being bitter over tonight's results, I don't care. I just really don't understand how people can not see the talent that just beams off of Adam, and I am almost sad that things went the way they did. People need to do something different for a change; accept new ways, new people, new lifestyles...Im all about the gays and the weirdos and the scene kids, etc...we're the only people looked down upon and still ballsy enough to be ourselves.

ONE DAY <3.

I said earlier that I didnt care if Adam won or not tonight, because i know he is still going to become a legend.

Fashionista: Effortless & Chic

"A fashionable woman is always in love - with herself."

My style obsession this week is all about looking effortless & still feeling pretty. Its hot in Los Angeles, and the last thing I want to do is layer tops over leggings, or be boring and pair a tank with a denim skirt. Dresses this season can be so versatile and there are so many styles and cuts to flatter any body shape. The key to this look is picking the right style, in the right fabric (silk, chiffon, lycra, etc) and staying away from cheapy looking textiles and prints...no tacky waterworks on jersey or overwhelming flower prints on cotton! Efforless style to me is keeping it casual, yet elegant at the same time. Does that even make sense? Just take a look at my outfit pick this week and you'll understand what i mean- great for day and easy to dress up for night!
Outfit of the week:
Soft silk on a lazy/baggy potato-sack dress looks so chic with an even more modest accessory than the dress itself- a rope belt!

Women's ruffle tube dress by Jenny Han $205 @ 80spurple.com

Pair with a feminine hair accessory in a neutral color and dont forget to over-accessorize! (Over accessorizing is always an A+ in my book)...my favorites are the vintage inspired flower headwraps...
Double skinny flower headband $24 @ urbanoutfitters.com
Pair with comfortable ankle boots...recently I have been into fringe moccassin inspired shoes and these ones by Jeffrey Campbell are to die for! The studs add for a more modern and fashion-forward feel and I love them...
Jeffrey Campbell for Free People. ON SALE! $49 @ freepeople.com

Accessory of the week:

HOW CUTE IS THIS! I must have it. Love on a Leash Maltese puppy purse, comes with its own doghouse haha $44 @ neimanmarcus.com

Random item of the week:

Adam Lambert one of a kind repainted doll $priceless @ no longer available.
Since I can't have Adam himself, this will have to do...for now. ModernMath, buzznet staff, actually showed this to me and I have been obsessing over it since. It was available on ebay and last I saw the bid was at just under $300 but I guess it sold. So I can't tell you where to get one because I don't know. All I know is that I must find out and get my hands on him...er, the doll!!!

What do you guys think of the outfit? Would you wear it?? The puppy purse? and the gorgeous Adam doll?! Hahaha let me know! I know I have weird taste sometimes =]

love your little fashionista

Adam Lambert, you are f*ing amazing.

I just want to come clean with my obsession with Mr. Glambert & want to put it out there that this is a completely normal and healthy obsession and I do not need help OKAY!

I haven't been this into American Idol for atleast 6 years- this is the first season that has caught my attention since the show first began. Adam Lambert is incredible. Actually, more than incredible and I cannot even begin to explain how talented he is and what his stage presence does to his audience. I truly think he is going to become a legend, and if not that, atleast something close. Maybe its just me (but I really believe an immense amount of others would agree), but I have never seen or heard anything like what he does. You might think that his high pitched rock n roll wails mixed into his performances are annoying, but I on the other hand see it as genius. There is nobody that can ever top him, whether that means that he is the absolute best at what he does, or if it just means that he sets a completley different style of music compared to everyone else.

This blog is not about the other contestants, but I do want to put it out there that I think the talent this season is out of this world. Kris Allen, Danny, and yes even Allison (whom I am not a fan of I am so glad she GTFO'd) have incredible talent. I know that after they get voted off, which they will because adam lambert is pretty much gods gift to earth in my eyes, they will have a good career in music. My point in mentioning "the others" is because they will perform- and I am amazed. I think, "God, they are so talented that was incredible!" But then Adam (who almost always performs last...the show is smart for doing this to save viewers) sings and I completely forget about the other people before him. The show is also very smart and I do believe sometimes it is "fixed." I know deep in my heart Adam was NOT in the bottom two a few weeks back and i am convicned that the show purposely did this because of that glitch that happened with iTunes leaking the most downloaded American Idol songs which therefore gives you a good idea of who will win by popular vote. Ofcourse, Adam's songs dominated the top ten on the chart with most downlaods.

Words can't even describe how amazing this guy is & almost everybody knows it. I know it, American Idol knows it, and even Mr. Cowell knows it. Talent (and incredibly striking good looks) like Adams' is hard to come accross.

I predicted right for the past month as to who gets voted off each week. Tonight, I think its going to be Danny. Watch I am totally right!!

Anyways,

I was drooling this morning over the cover of Entertainment Weekly with Adam on it. I even got my mom hooked on him after she read the article. I vote every single week for Adam until my fingers fall off, and i just want to say that if he does not win this next week, there is something very very wrong with America.

Too bad Adam likes boys...I've seen his photos dressed in drag! Maybe he will be at this year's PRIDE in LA and i can drool over him in person hahaha...whatever. ADAM I LOVE YOUUUUU. & I want this shirt lol...

ADAM GLAMBERT FTW <3.

Finally announcing my new collections...

CANDYLAND is almost out, so now its time to start working on my upcoming collections!

I want to put my themes out there & let everyone know what is up and coming. I will have sketches up very soon because I know you will all love to see those :)

Anyways, I am very excited to share with everyone the CANDYLAND collection later this month, but I am even more excited to move on and work on these new projects...

Under the Sea, spring/summer10

MARIALIA for spring/summer10 planned to debut this fall is going to be called "Under the Sea"...inspired from the magical tales of the ocean, myths, and underwater life. This collection is going to feature beautiful shades of blue, corals, and accents of metallics created with fabrics such as chiffon, tafeta, organza, lycra, lace, and hints of sequins and velvet.

Wonderland, december09

MARIALIA is going to do a special couture collection inspired from select characters from the classic Alice in Wonderland storybook. This mini collection is going to debut at the end of this year with very few pieces, each focusing on intricate detail, creativity, and the magical twists of the tale brought to life through structure.

As many of you know (and as stupid me totally forgot about when I planned this), Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is coming out in March 2010. I am so excited; Alice in Wonderland is my most favorite story of all time. For fallwinter10, which would be set to debut early 2010 (at about the same time as the movie), I was going to do "Wonderland", a collection inspired straight from the classic story. Now, because the timing is off and everyone I have spoken to thinks it would be weird for the movie to come out and then have my womderland collection come out, I am no longer doing this. Instead, as you can read above, Wonderland is going to be a special couture collection of very few pieces planned to debut around holiday time. (PS, i know the amazing John Galliano, Christian Lacrouix, Jean Paul Gaultier, and more have already done something like this for VOGUE in 2003. This is in no way to copy anyone else's work or ideas; just inspired from the same setting.)

Its going to be double the work; pretty much working on two collections at the same time but its nothing that I am afraid of doing. This is my art, and if I could spend every waking milisecond of my life doing nothing but this I would be very happy.

Just wanted to let everyone know what I am going to have my hands full with starting very very soon :)

What do you think? Which collection are you most excited to see?

headstrong. some motivational speaking for you.

I am so glad that the people that are not in my life anymore...are not in my life anymore. Up until about a year ago, I had a lot of negativity in my life; I chose the wrong people to call my friends and let into my life, and I just want to say how funny it is when you look back at things, situations, and people, and compare them to the present...you can really see the different levels others are on and how much higher up there a positive, dedicated, and strong attitude can take you.

i was probably one of the first to learn early on how insecure and unhappy people really are when they are negative towards others. To be honest, it gets so much better and all those people get filtered out when you graduate high school, but the one thing that keeps surprising me in the real world is that jealousy and negativity never ever ever completely go away...I felt really alone once upon a time. I was really unhappy and confused. I felt used and invaluable. And for the longest time I thought people- friends, if you will, were doing this to me, but the whole time it was actually I that was doing it to myself. I quickly learned: I am the one constant in my life that can control my outcome regardless of my surroundings. And although I do believe in destiny, I also believe that you have the power to control the way that you get there.

I don't want to be just a pretty face with cool clothing designs to people, I want people to see I have depth and tons of wisdom & I want the world to know that I'm shameless. Now That's something worth looking up to....so read on and embrace my words:

I guess I am writing this in a form of nostalgia; and also in a form to sort of congratulate myself to overcome all the bullshit that "friends", people, and even family have fed me. I have gotten really really far in the past years and I know that I have even further to go with my emerging career, but I just wanted to give all of you some heart to heart advice on life and your place in society; something that I am strongly opinionated on, and in which without its experiences, I would probably never be so passionate and more convinced about what I am choosing to do with my life...

Ask yourself this question: what is my one ultimate, crazy dream in life? What do I want to achieve?

Whether or not you believe that achieving this is possible: I am here to tell you it is. Everything and anything in this entire world is possible. If you properly start to work on achieving anything you set your mind to, I promise you that one day it will come. You're going to be living your dream. Whether you want to be a supermodel, actress, fashion designer, or even a doctor...the only thing that getting in your way is not other people, but yourself. Doing what you love to do with your life is probaby the most refreshing and rewarding feeling in the world. In my eyes, it is the only key to a lifetime of happiness. When I start gathering ideas for a collection, and then months later finish production; have a fashion show for it, see everything on my models, then having new people finally begin to recognize what I'm all about, and last but not least, seeing my creativity and imagination come to life through clothing and hearing such positive feedback about something I put my everything into, and getting due respect, and just seeing my name up there...are all probably the best feelings i have ever felt. I have never been more content with myself and my life, and its all because I took a chance. I put my $ where my mouth was & I walked the walk. I always challenge myself and strive to be the best in my category :) And I do this every six months. I constantly take chances, I do what I LOVE, but most importantly, I am so confident in what I do that I don't care anymore if other people accept it or not. And I think thats the hardest part.

People are always going to bring you down. Always always always. Everyday someone or something will tell you that you are incapable of doing or being. My advice to you is to first find yourself. You will know when you are passionate about something, and when you find out what that something is, don't let it sit around floating in your mind. Start doing something about it. You have to kind of look at your goal with tunnel vision. You don't see, hear, or feel anything else around you; you just fixate on that one thing as you dive right into it. Many a times, I find myself crying from happiness when I pause for a minute and contmeplate if this reality that I created for myself is real or still just a dream. And it gets even more overwhelming when I remember that I am barely twenty freakin years old and I remind myself that I have just begun and who knows how much I will have achieved in the years to come. You are going to see how happy working on doing what you love will make you, and there are going to be people everywhere telling you otherwise, but you have to know in your heart that they don't matter. This is a really good way to weed the bad people out of your life, by the way. And it doesn't make you a bad person to change, it just puts you on a whole new level in life. Focus on yourself, what you want to do, work hard, fuck everyone else, and just do it. You will learn to take rejection with a grain of salt, and all the hardships and obstacles that you endure in the race of chieving your dream will just make you appreciate it even more once you get there.

Follow your heart, do the right things, and live your dream.

xo

updates in my crazy world! feedback wanted :)

hi cutie pies!

writing an update of whats going on my world fashion wise...please give me your feedback on what you think about each topic, I appreciate all opinions & always take things into consideration.

so...

1. My website and webstore www.marialiaxo.com is getting a much needed makeover. Chelsea aka Tragic Glamour, great friend and owner of C.TA Glam Couture is designing it for me & I cannot wait to have it up and running, shes so talented! Should be up by next month...I am going for a more simple and clean look to represent my brand. I think now, more than ever, I have finally understood what I want to produce and be known as as a designer & its time to step it up and build some solid foundation for my name.

2. I was thinking of starting an etsy account for all my random one of a kind clothing items that do not pertain to a specific collection, but then I decided to just have a special section on my new website store to put them all in! This is something that is going to be called "Lia's Closet" and will feature random, custom, and one of a kind clothing items. There will only be one of any item so once its gone its gone for good! What do you guys think of this? Would it be something you'd be interested in? I thought it would be a cool idea :)

3. The CANDYLAND collection should debut online very soon within the next week or so, so please stay tuned! Also part two of the video whenever its up and ready! Did you like being behind the scenes of my collection photoshoot? Is there anything you'd like to see more "behind the scenes" of for future collections? Big thanks to all the models, makeup&hair team, photographer, and to buzznet for being so supportive and cooperative. The photos are amazing and will knock your socks off!

4. Planning theme ideas for my next collection for springsummer10....need to start working on it by next month to keep up with the crazy fashion cycle. I debuted the candyland collection a little late this year but its okay! I am a one man army so things get really hectic really often for me. I have some themes in mind, but can't decide which I want to do right now. I know they are pretty outrageous and inchoherent to a lot of other brands out there but thats what I am all about and will always stick to doing different things. I don't want to give out my possible ideas for the next collection just yet, but what would you guys like to see?

5. It took me long enough, but I am finally going to start making tutus! They are so tedious, time consuming, and require a ridiculous amount of yards of tulle but I kind of enjoy making them...Here are some photos of a recent one I made myself, and also made one for an order to ship out. I will have these available on my webstore soon...

6. And last but not least I am going to be doing another contest soon where you can win a custom garment by me. Or there's one I want to do soon where I pick someone and have them come to my sewing studio/house and teach them to make a simple summer dress, with a big bow on the front ofcourse. What do you think?! I love all my buzznet friends you are all so supportive so I think its the least I can do!

...Listening to YELLE...can't get enough of them! and finishing a top then heading to santa monica for the night. Photoshoot tomorrow downtown with Angela Markew...we are going to be doing a food series, one with a giant raw steak in front of me (sad face), and the other with vegetables (happy face). It will be cool :)

ciao ciao con amore,

your little fashionista

marialia
