April 29, 2009Fashionista: Prom Picks"Fashion is an imposition, a reign on FREEDOM."
PROM IS COMING UP! Do you want to rock it marialia style? =P I know many of you are going, or are thinking about going to the prom this year, so my fashion picks for this week are going to be all about your big day! For my prom, I made my dress. It was a short, strapless, white crushed velvet tutu dress with an open criss-cross back accented with lace. I matched the white with patent black accents like ribbon lace-up heels and super sleek blackish-brown hair. It had a very ballerina/fairy feel. Lets just say I got a lot of bug-eyed looks in the midst of all the weird glances shot at me. A lot of people thought it was cool though, but most importantly, I didn't care regardless. I stood out, I was confident, and I shocked people. And that was everything I was going for :) It's your high school prom. You don't want to blend in with all the department store dresses and cliche looks! Here is what I would wear to prom if I didn't have the option of making my own dress and got to relive those years again...
Prom outfit of the week: This dress is so fun and flirty and definitely my favorite. The babydoll style flatters almost every bodyshape and the colorblocks would look great with any skin tone. One downside for me is the length. I'm all about short short short! I would shorten this by about 5 inches and then it would be perfect.
dress by BG Haute by Scala $400 @ cinderellasgowns.com The best way to accessorize a dress these days is with a belt. I went with this studded belt by Patricia Fields to go with the dress above. Wear it right below the bust line. I think it would break up the color really neatly, and it gives you an open door to pair with black shoes & a clutch.
Carrie's studded belt from Sex & the City $120 @ patriciafield.com
Studded heels are probably the hottest thing right now, in my opinion. This gives your look a playful and fierce "edge". My shoe pick to go with the prom outfit is, ofcourse, the SMEAL studded heel from ALDO...
Prom accessory of the week:
Diorshow Lipgloss $28 @ bloomingdales.com I love the whole diorshow cosmetics line by christian dior. I have this very gloss and it is so bold, pink, and sparkly that I cannot get enough of it. Bright sparkly pink lips with that outfit above is a must!
Prom random item of the week:
Hello Kitty digital camera! $89 @ geekbro.com Its only 5.1 megapixels but who cares! I am a sucker for anything hello kitty. Its so cute and comes with changeable faceplates...perfect for capturing every single moment of your prom :)
Let me know what you think of my prom outfit! If I was in high school and wore this to your prom what would you think?? Would you wear something like this?
xoxo Love your fashionista marialia

April 24, 2009Fashionista: Chiffon, Aviators and a Cute Clutch
This week in LA has been insanely hot. On top of that, I have had the busiest past few days ever, so for me it has been all about feeling relaxed&cool yet looking fabulous at the same time. Whether you are trying to meet clothing deadlines, planning for a weekend full of photoshoots and fashion shows, or have a crazy school-to-work schedule, comfortable (yet still chic) clothing is a MUST for the hectic times in your life.
Outfit of the week: Fabric focus: light and airy with subtle print. The chiffon tunic is perfect for hot weather & yet still versatile enough to wear whenever. The Tunic compliments the season perfectly.
I am in love with this very tunic and might just have to get it! There is only one on etsy! The polka dots contrast so nicley and I could pair it with so many things!
dotted chiffon tunic with ruffle neck and skirt $80 @ Etsy
Pair with sheer black full length leggings... Leggings. How predictable of me :)
Romeo&Juliet Footed stirrup legging $32 @ thelovecouture.com
And fight the sun with some aviator raybans...
Ray-Ban original aviator singlasses $130 @ ray-ban.com (you can find similar styles for much less at stores like forever21)
Lastly, pair with these sandals...which i think are really rad. I tried these on at the Aldo store and wanted to get them but they didn't look right on me...
ROSENBERGER $75 @ aldo.com AND DONT FORGET TO OVER ACCESSORIZE! :)
Accesory of the Week: How cute is this!! A cassette clutch! It comes in three other colors but my favorite is the blue one. A little pricey, and a little unavailable in america, but it is so bold that you can pretty much wear a potato sack with this fine piece of handbag and still look smashing.
Nappa Cassette Clutch by corto moltedo $481 euros (free shipping!) @ luisaviaroma.com
Random item of the week: I have had one of these literally every single day for well over a week. Starbucks' Passion Tea Lemonade is DELICIOUS. I will probably turn into one myself if I keep drinking them :) Go get one yourself right now! I wish I could relax and drink one while reading Alice in Wonderland in the shade... one day soon I will do that.
Passion Tea Lemonade $2.80 @ Starbucks
THE END! Tell me what your fashion must-have is this week! What do you think of mine?

April 16, 2009The Fashionista: Vintage, Feathers and ChocolateCurious about the three things that I am obsessing over this week??? Have no fear I will now be posting these every week so look forward to them! =]
Outfit of the week: This week its all about the Vintage look... inspired by that very trend with my own little kick. And believe it or not this outfit can be ridiculously affordable. Most of these items can be found at your local thrift boutique! Go for a lighter color such as creme or white to bring in the new spring season!
Thistlepearl Halycon Dress $98.00 @ Urbanoutfitters.com
Pair with some vintage cowboy boots...
80's vintage Kenny Rogers white cowboy boots $35 @ Flashbackretro.com
And overaccessorize with tons of pewter toned necklaces and stacked bangles.
Diamond cut bangle set in gunmetal $21 @ Bebe.com
Liquid style 36"-39" necklace spring/summer 09 $86 @ Liasophia.com
And there you have it. A little less wild than my normal taste in clothing but changing it up every so often keeps your look interesting :)
Accessory of the week: As many of you know I have been dying over feather headbands and headwraps lately. They can add that little extra somethig to ANY outfit and any hair length can rock it. I usually make my own but here's my favorite one I found for sale! it is so ridiculous and bold. I'm in love...
Emerald city headband $89 @ Freepeople.com
Random item of the week: Something that is very important to me because I grew up loving them as a kid in Italy and I am so sad that they are pretty difficult to find here in L.A....definitley making my parents bring me back a box of these when they come home at the end of this month! If you live in Italy and are reading this please eat one for me :) Grazie!
Kinder SURPRISE egg (imported) $2.30 each @ Shopenzed.com Manufactured by uhhmanzing italian chocolate company called "Fererro." I suggest everyone try one. And the best part? They all come with a little buildable toy inside!!! I've been obsessed for the past twenty years of my life.
The end :)
So, what is your must have item that you have been obsessing over lately??? Let me know what you think of my picks for this week!

April 11, 2009caught you, so take cover....last night i was scrolling through jons music and put on this band called acceptance. I used to love this band a few years back when they were still a band...its so nostalgic; it reminds me of sophmore/junior year in high school, which was like three or four years ago. Probably one of the best bands ever in my opinion...sucks they are not longer together :(
Anyways, its funny thinking back to all the bands I used to be so into and now over the years, either they have changed, are no longer a band, or I just grew over them. These past few years I have been so caught up with my fashion designing that I pretty much lost that love for music I once had & its nice to think back to those carefree warpedtour-loving-pink-ipod-mini-&band-hoodies high school days sometimes.
My top five at that time, in no order, were definitley: armor for sleep (circa "car under water" days), my american heart, emery, acceptance, & the starting line (best of me was probably one of my favorite songs of all time).
I know a lot of you were probably way young when these bands were big, so do you guys know what I'm talking about? haha What are some of your current favorite bands? i could use some new stuff to listen to!
xoxo

April 8, 2009And the winner is...I just wanted to say that I never thought it would be so difficult to choose somebody but it was. I had a really hard time because each and every single response I felt was so deserving. I wish i could send all of you something fabulous but unfortunately I am a one man sweat shop and it would be nearly impossible :( Maybe one day when I hire little oompa loompas to sew for me. Thank you to everybody that entered; I am incredibly pleased to hear that my designs are a big inspiration to a lot of you and I hope that I can continue to be someone to look up to :)
It was a tough call, but after a lot of reading and re-reading and narrowing down answers, I came to conclude that the person getting a free custom garment from me is CUPCAKE88 (www.cupcake88.buzznet.com). I think its so great that you are learning how to sew from your grandma and I am very impressed with these that you have already made:
I am really happy to know that I have inspired you so much more to pursue doing something that you enjoy so I am pleased to be sending you a custom garment made specially for you! :) I hope it will expand your ideas and creativity and I know you will really enjoy it.
